Leyton Orient are looking at the possibility of bringing former Queens Park Rangers midfielder Hogan Ephraim to Brisbane Road.

The winger is currently a free agent following his release from the Loftus Road outfit in the summer, and featured for the O’s under-21 side against Peterborough United this afternoon.

Caretaker boss Kevin Nugent had expressed the possibility of some new arrivals ahead of Saturday’s home game against MK Dons after winger Dean Cox was the latest to be added to their injury list after picking up a knee injury which could keep him out for a number of weeks.

“We have got a huge injury crisis at the moment and we had a very young bench at Sheffield United which is good for the football club,” said Nugent.

“The lads that came on – Chris Dagnall, Shaun Batt and Marvin Bartley – did a pretty good job but we are down to the bare bones at the moment.

“We will have to have a look and see how long people are going to be out for. We have a few long termers so we will have to look and see what is available for the next couple of games.

“The medical team will know better on Dean’s injury but I think it will be another few weeks yet. It’s just a bit of a knee problem. It’s nothing serious so hopefully it shouldn’t be too long.

“You don’t want to be bringing in players just for the sake of it and then find them on the sideline when your own ones come back. We want to bring in players who are going to improve the squad.”

During his six-year stay at Loftus Road, the 26-year-old spent much of his time out on loan, including spells with Leeds United, Charlton Athletic, Bristol City, Toronto FC and Peterborough United.

In addition to Cox’s absence, the O’s are also currently without Adam Legzdins, Gary Sawyer, Lloyd James, Kevin Lisbie, Mathieu Baudry and David Mooney.
