Jamie Murphy’s second half equaliser denied Orient a vital win at Sheffield United. Dean Cox’s 13th goal of the season had set the O’s on their way but they had to settle for a point.

The winger picked up a fortunate ricochet after Moses Odubajo and John Lundstram had shots charged down, lifted the ball over a defender and slid it under Blades goalkeeper Mark Howard.

But Murphy scampered onto a through ball, rounded Jamie Jones and slotted into the empty net to draw the FA Cup semi finalists level. Wins for Rotherham and Preston dropped Orient to fifth in the League One table – their lowest position this season.

Orient manager Russell Slade made two changes from the side that lost at home to Bradford last weekend.

Elliot Omozusi and Lloyd James came back into the starting line-up after being rested, at the expense of Gary Sawyer and David Mooney respectively.

Romain Vincelot was available again but missed out with a hamstring injury and Marvin Bartley is still out with a hamstring problem. Orient started with Kevin Lisbie up front on his own but Cox and Moses Odubajo both played very high up the pitch when the visitors had possession.

Cox’s moment of quality four minutes before the break was out of keeping with a dire first half in which both goalkeepers were barely tasted.

O’s stopper Jamie Jones easily held a Ryan Flynn header moments before Odubajo put in a menacing cross into the six yard box which no one gambled on.

Jones punched away John Brayford’s dangerous cross before Cox’s moment of magic gave Orient the lead.

Brayford looked like the Blades most likely route back into the game as he headed wide at the back post before seeing his volley bravely blocked by Omozusi after the interval.

United manager Nigel Clough made a double substitution with Stefan Scougall and Ben Davies for Stephen McGinn and Chris Porter, but it was Jamie Murphy who struck 19 minutes into the second half to deny the visitors all three points.

The hosts might even have win the game but Jones tipped Conor Coady’s long range effort over the bar and Brayford headed wide when he really should have scored.

Leyton Orient: Jones; Cuthbert, Baudry, Clarke, Omozusi; Odubajo, Ness, James (Batt 83), Lundstram, Cox (Mooney 70); Lisbie. Substitutes not used: Larkins, Sawyer, Gorman, Dagnall, Simpson.
