Capital One Cup preview: Aston Villa v Leyton Orient

It’s been a Capital One Cup full of shocks and surprises so far, and Leyton Orient boss Russell Slade hopes to cause another when the O’s head to Premier League side Aston Villa tonight.

Manchester United were convincingly dumped out of the competition 4-0 by League One side MK Dons last night, while League Two’s Shrewsbury overcame Leicester City at the King Power Stadium and Sheffield United saw off West Ham United on penalties.

The latter was a clash between a team in claret and blue and a team in red and white, so will that happen once again tonight at Villa Park? Slade certainly hopes so.

“I’m expecting the greatest test,” said Slade.

“We are playing a very good side with a good manager. I’ve watched a couple of DVDs of them and they are very well organised, disciplined and know exactly what they are doing.

“We won’t be expected to win the fixture but we’ll give it our best shot and hopefully we will put in a performance to be proud of.”

Slade has a few minor niggles going into tonight’s game, while Damian Batt will travel with the squad despite a calf injury.

Fellow striker Kevin Lisbie will miss out though with a shoulder injury, and the O’s are currently awaiting results of Lisbie’s visit to a specialist.

“Kevin went to see his specialist yesterday about his shoulder, and Shaun Batt continues to make progress,” he added.

“He’s unlikely to be available for Wednesday but he will travel with us because we have got games after that.

“There’s one or two carrying soreness or strains that they need to get over so they’ll be a few changes inevitably but I am sure with the group of 20 one or two others will get their opportunities.”
