Experienced goalkeeper Dean Brill talks up the impact of the new boss at Brisbane Road as he approaches a month in charge of Leyton Orient

Justin Edinburgh has targets in mind for when the January transfer window opens to help boost Leyton Orient’s cause in the National League.

The O’s have improved under the former Gillingham boss, but he is well aware a lot of hard work still needs to be done before the Brisbane Road club can be happy.

One piece of business the east Londoners will be looking to do next month is to complete the permanent signing of Josh Coulson from Cambridge United.

But Edinburgh also wants to bring in a midfielder and an attacker with pace and the character of the person is key.

“We need to be able to change games and have a presence and we need players who know how to win things,” said Edinburgh.

“A lot is expected of us and I always look at the character first and foremost because to play for Orient, you need to have a strong character. You need to be able to deal with playing for the biggest club in the National League.

“I think we need some more pace because we do have Macauley Bonne, but he’s a young player and he needs to maybe not be playing week in, week out, so he can get some rest time.

“We could do with a like for like replacement for ‘Macca’ and another central midfielder and more width and pace out wide.”

An area where Orient may not look to bring in some reinforcements is in goal after Dean Brill’s impressive start to life as O’s number one.

The goalkeeper coach was handed the gloves at Solihull Moors on December 2 and has responded with a string of solid performances.

Brill praised Edinburgh, he said: “Justin has brought a real desire to win in everything we do, like in training and with everything.

“The intensity he has was definitely needed with the way the season was going because we have a talented bunch, but his intensity and drive has really picked the boys up when they needed it.

“I know as a professional, you probably shouldn’t need that and you should have your own desire to do that, but everyone in their job needs a pick me up and the gaffer has done that.

“He has done really well and like I say, he has a great intensity and a great desire to win.”

Orient have extended the loan of Dagenham & Redbridge defender Bondz N’Gala by a further month.

N’Gala joined the O’s on November 23 on an initial one-month loan and marked the last appearance of his loan with a goal in a 2-0 win at Maidstone United on Saturday.

It looked set to be the defenders final game for Orient, but he has agreed to stay until the end of January, although he won’t be eligble to feature against his parent club on New Years Day (Monday).
