League One: Rotherham United 2 Leyton Orient 1

Former O’s striker Alex Revell curled in a winner deep into stoppage time to break Orient hearts.

Revell struck from the edge of the box for Rotherham after Moses Odubajo had pulled Orient level late on.

The winger fired into the top corner after collecting Chris Dagnall’s cross from the left following an exquisite long pass from Nathan Clarke.

Wes Thomas’ early header had put Rotherham ahead in the first 10 minutes.

The O’s made two changes from Tuesday’s win against Coventry.

Kevin Lisbie, who scored the only goal when these teams met in October, did not make the squad due to injury and Robbie Simpson came in for a rare start. David Mooney again had to be content with a place on the bench.

Alnwick made his second Orient debut after signing from Charlton Athletic yesterday.

Dean Cox had a trio of first half chances but failed to beat home goalkeeper Adam Collin.

He lofted an early volley high and wide before bringing a save out of Collin, with Simpson unable to profit on the rebound.

His best opportunity came towards the end of the half after Romain Vincelot and Moses Odubajo bundled the ball through to him, but Cox fired wide from the edge of the box when he should have hit the target.

By that time the visitors were behind as the Millers January signing flicked a header beyond new O’s goalkeeper Ben Alnwick after 10 minutes after Ben Pringle produced an enticing right wing cross.

The O’s had a lot of the ball but the home side looked a constant threat on the break. Centre backs Clarke and Mathieu Baudry had to be alert to block off Rotherham top scorer Kieran Agard and Thomas.

And the Millers almost doubled their lead when Revell nodded another excellent free-kick from Pringle just wide.

Rotherham lived up to their tag as a physical team as the tackles flew on – one particularly strong challenge from Claude Davis reducing Odubajo to a heap on the floor.

It earned the defender a yellow card and led to an angry exchange between the two benches.

Alnwick produced a superb one-on-one save from Rotherham substitute Tom Hitchcock and it looked like it would proved crucial as Odubajo crashed in his eighth goal of the season.

Pringle curled just wide before Revell proved more accurate in the dying embers to condemn Orient to just their second league defeat of the season.

It also knocked the O’s out of the automatic promotion places as Wolves beat Bradford.

Orient: Alnwick; Cuthberrt, Baudry, Clarke, Omozusi; Odubajo, Vincelot, James (Bartley 69), Cox; Dagnall (Loza 89), Simpson (Mooney 57). Substitutes: Larkins, Sawyer, Ness, Lasimant.
