Leyton Orient caretaker manager Kevin Nugent admitted he would be interested if he was offered the job on a full-time basis.

Nugent has been with the O’s for several seasons in various roles, and took charge of Saturday’s 3-2 home defeat to 10-man Rochdale after former boss Russell Slade handed in his resignation at Brisbane Road on Wednesday.

And the 45-year-old also hinted that a new title of head coach would be created if he, or anyone else took up the opportunity to lead the O’s.

“I’ve worked here a long time and I’ve done youth team, scouting, allsorts,” said Nugent.

“They will probably change the role here to head coach. It is something that will certainly excite me but we’ll have to wait and see.”

In front of owner Francesco Becchetti, chief executive Alessandro Angelieri and sporting director Mauro Milanese, the performance was hardly one to remember for the O’s as déjà vu struck once again as they lost to 10 men for the second home league game in succession.

But Nugent hoped to still be in the position come next Saturday’s home game with Swindon Town, and will talk with the Italian owners over the weekend to discuss what will happen in regards the management situation.

“I’d like to think I’d be in charge for the Swindon game but I don’t know. We just want to get today’s game out of the way and we’ll speak over the weekend,” he added.

Nugent has also been linked in following former O’s boss Russell Slade to Cardiff City, having had a five-year spell as a player with the Welsh outfit, however, he remains fully focused on his current position at Brisbane Road.

“It’s a fantastic club and it’s a great appointment for Cardiff,” said Nugent.

“They are a club slightly on the dip and Russell will go in there and sort them out, but we were just concentrating on today’s game and nothing more than that really.”
