Leyton Orient caretaker boss Kevin Nugent hopes the ‘offer’ for him to take the head coach role at Brisbane Road is still available despite back-to-back home defeats.

Nugent insists he has been offered the head coach role with the O’s, but sporting director Mauro Milanese claims that is not the case.

All the confusion is hardly helping the club, however after Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Swindon, Nugent insists they need some stability in E10.

“They are looking at a different route of head coach and I have been offered that role but there are still discussions going on about it,” said Nugent.

“I think the club needs a little bit of stabilising all round it really. Previously we have been looked at as a model football club and we need to get back to that.

“I have been here a long time in three spells – one starting in 1983 I think – so we need to get back to that and start winning games again.

“I’d like to think the offer is still there. If it’s two defeats then there is not much longevity in it anyway further down the line, but that’s how it is at the moment.

“I want to do well for this football club as do the players and the main thing is getting Leyton Orient back up the table again.”

However, Milanese seemed to suggest the offer was merely a rumour and theY need another week to think things through.

“We trust Kevin because he coached with Russell Slade and he knows the players better than anyone else,” Milanese told BBC London 94.9.

“He’s got the personality to drive the team.

“We were 100 per cent behind Russell and we were a bit unlucky that Cardiff wanted him. At the moment we’ll stay with Kevin and hope he gets some results.

“We need to keep it more private. I don’t know who said this [that Nugent has been offered the job] and I think sometimes rumours arrive.

“He wanted to have this chance and he preferred to stay than to follow Russell Slade.

“We have a cup game on Tuesday, and we need one more week to think about it. We are in no rush. The results at the moment are not helping us to confirm the position.”
