Defenders Scott Cuthbert and Mathieu Baudry both feel appointing Kevin Nugent as manager would be the right move for Leyton Orient.

Nugent had been former boss Russell Slade’s assistant since 2009 having worked his way up from youth team manager at Brisbane Road.

And Baudry feels continuity is what the side need at this time, although he is aware the former O’s player is keen to put his own stamp on the squad.

“For the continuity Nuge (Kevin Nugent) is still there and we have got Andy (Edwards – youth team coach) who was working already with us so it is continuity,” said Baudry.

“Nuge is bringing in his own ideas as well so I think he needs time.

“I think he had a good career and has the football knowledge. He knows the team and it is not our decision but we are all going to be on the same side to work hard and get results.”

And fellow defender Cuthbert sees no reason why Nugent wouldn’t be a success at Brisbane Road.

“He has been here since I have been at the club. He’s a fantastic coach,” said Cuthbert.

“He knows his football and I don’t see why not. It would be fantastic if they could give Nuge and Andy a shot.”

Nugent is now as short as 1/2 in the betting to take the job, with Micky Adams, who was favourite yesterday afternoon, back out to 6/1 along with Marc Bircham and Jimmy Floyd-Hasselbaink.
