Jamie Jones has turned down a new contract at Leyton Orient to join League One rivals Preston North End.

The 25-year-old had been the longest-serving player with the O’s, having represented the club 179 times since joining the club in the summer of 2008.

But after the O’s play-off final penalty shoot-out heartache last month, the former Everton youth product has decided to make a fresh start with Preston.

Jones has signed a two-year deal with the Deepdale side, who also made the League One play-offs, losing out to Rotherham United over the two-legged semi-final.

His departure now leaves Orient and Russell Slade without a first-team goalkeeper, having also released former West Ham United youngster Jake Larkins after the play-off final defeat.
