Defender agrees new deal

Defender Scott Cuthbert admitted it was an easy decision to agree a new two-year deal with Leyton Orient.

Ruled out of the closing weeks of the League One decision due to a fractured foot, Cuthbert was more than happy to sign on the dotted line for Russell Slade’s side and hopes they can build on their seventh-place finish next season.

He said: “I’m delighted to get it all signed and sorted. It’s the ideal thing for me and I didn’t need to think twice about signing a new contract.

“It has been in the background for the last three or four weeks and I’m delighted to sign for the next two years.

“It has been really frustrating for me, to not be a part of it. You want to play as much as you can.

“But fortunately the manager has shown faith in me with the new contract.”

The 31-year-old Cuthbert made 25 appearances this season before his injury setback and is back in light training ahead of what he hopes will be a happy summer.

He added: “I get on great with the manager and the coaching staff and the players are great.

“I’ve got some great friends at the club and I’m getting married this summer.

“If we can keep the nucleus of the squad together I don’t see why we can’t have a shot at it next season.”

Orient have started talks with Elliot Omozusi, Romain Vincelot and David Mooney, but Lee Butcher, Lee Cook, Charlie MacDonald, Leon McSweeney, Martin Rowlands and Jimmy Smith are all out of contract and have not been offered new deals at this stage in time.
