A Jeffrey Cobblah hat-trick inspired Clapton to a 4-1 victory over Essex Senior League rivals Ilford at Cricklefield Stadium.

The electric winger proved too much for the Ilford defence as he struck three to help his side pick up their first win of the season after losing 2-0 to Basildon United on the opening day.

The opening five minutes neither side managed to get ahold of the game and there was no real chances and the first chance eventually fell to Zach Miller

when he had a dig from long range and sent it high and wide in the eighth minute.

In the seventeen minute winger Jeffrey Cobblah cut in from the right and blasted a shot that hit the crossbar.

The electric winger got another chance when he put a free-kick from just outside the box over the bar three minutes later.

Ilford found their way back into the game and it looked as though Khadean Campell had found his way through on goal, but a great last ditch tackle from Quincy Egbejale stopped the winger having a shot.

Campbell continued to cause chaos running at the Clapton defence, before finding his way past in the thirty third minute to pick out team-mate Harry Walker, who turned on defence and curled a shot just past the top left corner.

The Tons Cobblah once again made a great run down the wing before cutting in towards the box and slotting home a shot into the left side of the net to put his side 1-0 up with five minutes left in the first-half.

Five minutes into the second half it was Clapton on top again as winger Cobblah slotted home his second of the evening from inside the box to double their lead.

Two minutes later Ilford striker James Peagram muscled his way through the Clapton and got off a shot but was denied by Emmanuel Olajide.

In the sixty fifth minute substitute Anton Stephenson crept in behind the Ilford back line and chipped a shot over the bar.

The play came straight back down the other end and the Foxes Atutis broke into the box but made nothing of it as his shot went into the hands of Olajude.

The keeper was called back into action six minutes as he denied a header from close tange to kee the score at 2-0.

Ilford were desperate to claw the scoreline back and started pressing extremely hard putting ball after ball into the box, but couldn’t find a way to convert, as they had once chance cleared off the line in the seventy seventh minute.

Cobblah very nearly struck another for his hat-trick as right back Lanre Vigo run down the flank and picked him out in the middle, before he turned and had his shot denied by Chris Clark, who pushed it clear for a corner.

The winger did eventually bag his hat-trick in the eighty second minute when he once cut inside and struck home his third from inside the box to extend his sides lead to 3-0.

Ilford got a consolation goal when new addition Peagram scored from the spot with two minutes left in the match after he was brought down in the box.

The Tons got a penalty on their own a minute later, which winger Ryan Reed slotted into the top left hand corner to make it 4-1 to seal the victory for his team.
