Side manager still looking to make additions to his team

There could be a few new faces in the Barkingside squad for their FA Vase trip to Essex Senior League rivals London Bari as manager Gursel Gulfer continues to add to his squad.

The Side boss revealed he had already signed ex-Dagenham & Redbridge youngster Jimmy Nottage this week, but was busy trying to bring in some more new recruits for Saturday.

Gulfer was so busy, in fact, he missed the initial phone call from the Recorder — because he was on the phone trying to finalise another deal!

But the Barkingside manager is confident that whoever he brings in will be of the required quality needed for the club.

“I’m using my connections at Dagenham & Redbridge and the players we are bringing in are hungry to prove themselves,” he said.

“I won’t stand in their way if they want to progress their careers, but I’m happy to have them while they are here.”

Gulfer will also be hoping his new recruits have a bit more self-disicipline, having seen his squad have two men sent off in a goalless draw in the league with landlords Ilford on Monday.

It has taken Side’s red card tally to four for the season already, and Gulfer admits he may have to speak to his team regarding their future conduct.

He added: “The referees were brilliant in the Ryman North last season, but this year they are not up to that standard.

“I will talk to the players, though, because they are picking up silly yellows for dissent, which then puts them at risk of a red. If you have a player sent off, you want it for a proper reason.”
