FA Vase: Welwyn Garden City 3 Clapton 0; Essex Senior League: Newham 0 Barking 3; Tower Hamlets 3 Greenhouse London 0
Clapton were dumped out the FA Vase at the first time of asking as they slipped to defeat at Welwyn Garden City.
The Tons were under threat from the off as goalkeeper Pape Diagne was forced into several good saves before the hosts broke the deadlock on eight minutes when Joel Norris headed in a Sean Brettell corner.
Clapton were up against it and conceded a second when Norris turned provider as his cross found Jason Caswell and he diverted the effort past Diagne.
That was how it remained at the break and Welwyn made sure of their progress 10 minutes into the second half when Juan Cifuentes’ through ball found Caswell and he rounded the onrushing Diagne to slot home from a tight angle.
Essex Senior League: Newham 0 Barking 3
Ten-man Newham went down to an in-form Barking.
The Blues made the trip to the Old Spotted Dog unbeaten so far this season and the odds were stacked against Newham causing their first defeat when they were reduced to 10 men after only nine minutes of the match for a foul on Ryan Creed.
However, Zakir Hussain’s side stuck to the task and it was only in first half stoppage time that Barking took the lead through Ben O’Brien.
That paved the way though as O’Brient doubled his and the visitors tally when heading home on 52 minutes before Sipho Mytanda sealed the win with 21 minutes remaining.
Tower Hamlets 3 Greenhouse London 0
Tower Hamlets moved into the top-10 in the Essex Senior League for the first time this season in a comfortable win over lowly Greenhouse London.
Vinny Williams put them on course for the win on 18 minutes and Serkan Bunyat made it 2-0 just short of the half hour mark. AJ Olatunbosun’s side didn’t seal the win though until Ade Cole found the net on 76 minutes.
