Clapton assistant manager Wayne Seal disappointed to lose another goalkeeper to injury and fall to a second consecutive defeat as they lost 3-2 to FC Romania.

The Tons twice took the lead but couldn’t hang on at Theobalds Lane and they now find themselves sixth in the Essex Senior League and searching for another keeper.

“I’m massively disappointed, we signed a new goalkeeper Nicholas Hall, but he got injured and we were left with no keeper again,” Seal said.

“We just seem to be having this goalkeeper crisis right now and a real run bad run of luck.

“The goalkeeper Nicholas got injured and we had to put Nick Loblack back in goal again like we did against Redbridge.

“It’s heartbreaking and I feel for the players as they’re doing nothing wrong and neither are Jon and I, we’re just having a bit of a bad patch at the moment.

“If we didn’t have that situation I would like to think we would have at least got a point if not all three.”

Clapton took the lead through Greg Akpele, only for the hosts to level it up through Florin Pop, before Andre Spencer restored the Tons advantage.

It wasn’t long before the hosts equalised through George Taban and then Cosmin Sandu netted the winner and Seal believes they were the better side.

“Our second-half performance was fantastic, so that was a positive as Romania are a very good footballing side and the sort of team you want to be competing against, and I feel we outplayed them for stretches of the match.

“If anything we gave them their three goals.”

Clapton will now host second-place Basildon United at the Old Spotted Dog tomorrow evening (7.45pm) as they look to bounce back to winning ways.
