Craig Bellamy, Micah Richards and Ryan Giggs have been named as Stuart Pearce’s over-age players
David Beckham has missed out on a place at the London 2012 Olympics after Team GB manager Stuart Pearce decided to select Manchester United’s Ryan Giggs, Manchester City’s Micah Richards and Liverpool’s Craig Bellamy.
The LA Galaxy midfielder has been an ambassador for the games but will not be taking part as one of three players over the age of 23.
“Naturally I am very disappointed, but there will be no bigger supporter of the team than me,” Beckham said.
“There will be no bigger supporter of the team than me. And like everyone, I will be hoping they can win gold.
“Everyone knows how much playing for my country has always meant to me. So I would have been honored to have been part of this.”
