Newham College widened the gap between themselves and NewVic College by beating them for their second win of the day in the latest round of Essex CCB/UEL Indoor League fixtures.

Leyton Sixth Form College were also celebrating, after thrashing BSix College by 94 runs to move clear in second spot.

H Ahmed (25), captain Hassan Ali (26) and Sohaib Kayani (27) all retired, with Ahsan Tanveer (27) and Yasir Kayani (20) also contributing towards Leyton’s colossal total of 147.

In response, BSix were skittled for 53, as only Hassan Shah (10) reached double figures.

C King (1-12) and skipper Ali (1-2) did most the damage, with Ali and H Ahmed able to pick up a run out each as well.

Newham made a successful start to their double-header with a two-wicket triumph over George Monoux College.

George Monoux batted first and reached 87, with Rameez Rehman (29), skipper Hanif Khan (22) and Khalil Khan (13) picking up most their runs.

Zeeshan Khan (32) and Muhammad Rahim (23) led Newham’s successful run-chase, though, as Rehman completed a fine individual match.

Not only did he impress with the ball (2-18), he also was involved in a crucial run out too.

Rehman’s heroics were not enough, however, as Tariq Jan (7) saw Newham home in the last over.

Finally, in the crucial top-of-the-table battle, Newham secured a crucial win over NewVic to extend the gap between themselves and second-placed Leyton and NewVic in third.

Newham batted first and posted a competitive 110-2 from their 10 overs.

Captain Fasil Fajarul (27) and Zeeshan Khan (25) were among the key men for Newham, while Arafat Bhuiyan (1-29) had the best bowling figures.

NewVic were restricted in their run chase by Hamza Omar (1-14), who was supported by Adnan Rahim (1-10) and Zeeshan Khan (1-11).

And they were eventually dismissed some 52 runs short of their target, despite the best efforts of Shafi Mohammed (17), Bhuiyan (13) and Rafe Islam (11).

The double success extended Newham’s lead at the summit to 11 points.

Standings: Newham College 8 matches 96 points; Leyton Sixth Form 9-85; NewVic A 7-65; Havering Sixth Form 8-50; NewVic B 6-48; George Monoux 7-48; Tower Hamless 7-47; Hackney Community 7-44; Barking & Dagenham 7-42; BSix College 8-4.
