Low scores were the order of the day during the eighth week of the Essex County Board’s FE “Chance to Shine” tournament, as Havering Sixth Form and Newham College picked up wins.

Havering faced Norlington College, who were playing their first match of the tournament and proved to be no match for them.

Not a single Norlington batsman found their way into double figures, with Shohaib Naseer leading the scoring with seven runs from eight deliveries.

Tyler Bunn bowled Majeeb Mirzaman for a duck and ran out Fareed Hussain (1) as Norlington were all out for 49.

Rahib Hoque and Jake Southam opened the reply for Havering, with Hoque knocking 15 runs from 16 balls and Southam facing just five legal deliveries without score.

But that was all Havering needed as the Norlington bowling attack allowed 35 extras and Havering crossed the line without loss for a six-wicket win.

Barking & Dagenham had bad luck in their match against Newham College, arriving late and seeing Jahangir Rahman and Saad Rashid timed out.

The rest of the batting order fell to pieces as Newham’s Hamza Omar picked up two wickets and Zeeshan Khan ran out opener Kamran Ali for four runs.

Barking & Dagenham were 16 all out in just 2.3 overs and Omar struck 11 from 10 in reply, while Khan added three runs to lead Newham home without loss in 2.1 overs.
