The 55-year-old, who captained the national side between 1986 and 1988, had been invited to attend by Capital Kids Cricket who provides weekly coaching sessions at the Canning Town School as part of a bid to develop cricket in the borough.

Gatting followed up with a talk about his life as a cricketer and also donated an England to the school which will be used as an individual prize for the best match performance during next summer’s season.

Capital Kids and West Ham Cricket Club will be providing free half-term cricket coaching for eight to 16-year-old boys at Rokeby School, Barking Road, Canning Town, London E16 4DD. The sessions are set to take place between 10am and 1pm on Monday 29th, Tuesday 30th and Wednesday 31st October 2012.
