by three wickets

Newham continued their good form of late with a gritty win over Leyton in their Essex County Cricket League Premier Division clash at Flanders Field on Saturday.

The victory was Newham’s fourth of the season and follows hard on the heels of last week’s tenacious win over Hornchurch where they showed plenty of character to defend a modest total.

Leyton won the toss and decided to bat, but were kept pinned down by the home side who restricted them to 132 all out in 41 overs.

In reply, skipper Shazad Hussain’s outfit continued the good work and reached their target in the 33rd over, for the loss of seven wickets.

The victory over Leyton was Newham’s fourth of the campaign and leaves them third in the table with 97 points, just 21 adrift of the unbeaten league leaders Scintilla.

Newham are back in action at the weekend when they travel to Barking.
