Newham College had a successful day as both their A and B teams emerged victorious in the Essex County Board’s FE “Chance to Shine” tournament at UEL SportsDock.

Zeeshan Khan was the catalyst for the Newham first team after they put themselves into bat against Bsix College.

Khan smashed his way to 25 runs and then retired and, after his side lost all but one of their wickets, he returned and continued right where he had left off, finishing with 40 runs to his name from just 15 deliveries.

Muhammad Rahim was also brilliant for Newham, notching an unbeaten 23 from nine balls, with two fours.

Mujakkir Hussain added a handy 14 in five minutes as Newham finished their 10 overs at 135-4.

Bsix’s Jahan Zeb took two wickets, but was also the most expensive bowler, allowing 32 runs from his two overs.

Bsix’s batsmen never had a chance in the chase, with Newham’s Hamza Omar brilliant in taking two wickets with an economy rate of just 3.00, whilst also running out opener Umar Ayub.

Mukhtiar Jan and Umeed Ullah were dismissed for ducks as Bsix slumped to 20 all out in 5.1 overs.

Newham B also put in a strong performance as they defeated Waltham Forest by 34 runs.

Waltham Forest won the toss and elected to bowl, but were inconsistent from the start, allowing a total of 42 extras.

Atesaam Syed and Mohamed Irfan made their way to half centuries, each with one four and a six, as Newham posted 105-3.

Opener Rizwan Khan got Waltham’s reply off to a good start, scoring 14 from 14 before he was run out by Syed.

Khan’s innings proved the highest score, though, with Imran Ahmad next best with his 12 from nine deliveries.

Arsalan Khan was magnificent for the Newham bowling attack, gathering two scalps whilst allowing 18 runs in three overs.

Forest were all out from the last ball of the eighth over for 71 as Newham B followed up last week’s dominant win with another victory.
