West Ham BC are sending a quartet of boxers through to the London ABA novices finals after the keenly contested NE London Divisional Championships at Harold Hill on Saturday.
Aston Kazlauskas, Mertys ‘Rocky’ Wagner, Mitchell Frearson and Boston Reid were the boxers who came through the tournament at the Five Star Club, where more than 20 bouts produced some entertaining afternoon action.
Reid showed his hit and run skills to outscore Broad Street BC’s determined Mosco Rahman in the Class B (up to 20 bouts) under-60kg decider.
Frearson and Repton rival Sam Soloman produced a lively Class A (up to 10 bouts) 71kg contest with the Hammer coming through a majority points winner.
Kazlauskas’ victory in the Class A under-57kg class saw him come through his battle with Newham’s Emran Hussein, when the bout was halted in the third round with the West Ham hope on top.
Fairbairn boxers also joined the winners with Kam Raji’s powerful aggression clinching the points verdict and the Class B 67kg award over Tony Kennelly (Five Star).
Riaz Noorgate was another Fairbairn club winner when he earned a majority verdict over Charlie Keating (Five Star) in the Class B 57kg decider.
Tendai Simbo added his name to the Fairbairn win parade when he came though a keenly fought Class A 81kg final between hard-hitting rivals, when he overcame Ez Baker from Stepney’s Broad Street BC.
