West Hams Johnny Ellis progressed through to the opening round of the National Schoolboys Championships

West Ham Boxing Club’s past national champions Johnny Ellis and Sidney Driscoll moved through the opening round of the National Schoolboys’ Championships with good wins at Chingford on Saturday.

They took NE London Divisional titles in the opening stage of the 2013 title race, where Ellis proved too good for Romford’s Paul Claydon in their 44kg final.

Reigning champion Driscoll showed his sharp-hitting skills to subdue Repton’s game Lewis Jackson, moving through to the London semi-finals in style.

Also lining up in the London semi-finals at Feltham this weekend will be Hammer Javade Skeete, after his impressive NE London title win.

■ Neighbours Newham BC also enjoyed title success on Saturday when Alf Mehegan was a Class One 36kg winner over Zac Jones (Hornchurch).

■ Lansbury boxer Adam Florianovicz produced a career-best performance to eliminate last year’s national finalist Mo Sheeraz in the first hurdle of the 2013 National Schoolboys’ title trail on Saturday.

The Poplar club celebrated a win-double at the NE London Championships as Terry Conroy claimed the Class Three 60kg title, beating Five Star’s tough Edward Delaney.

Florianowicz came through his test against Debden boxer Sheeraz, giving a determined display and landing the more effective punches to move into the London semi-finals at Feltham this weekend.

He will be joined by Conroy, who also reached the 2012 national finals, as they bid for further success on the schools title trail.
