The 10 budding year five and six athletes have been rewarded for their outstanding team performances across track and field in the 75 metres, 600m, long jump and javelin, and will now proudly fly the flag for the Olympic 2012 host borough.

St. Francis will compete against the 31 other London boroughs knowing victory at the iconic south east London stadium, whose track has graced the likes of LOCOG Sebastian Coe, will confirm them as the cities champions.

And the team should now have all the necessary inspiration for success after Jamaican triple jumper Trecia-Kaye Smith treated them to a motivational speech at last week’s school sports week.

Smith, a double Commonwealth gold medallist and 2005 world champion, who has set her sights on another medal spoke about the importance of education, discipline and hard work.

She also called on the government to ensure primary schools sport remains a top priority on the curriculum. Saints go marching into mini youth games after battling to a superb Newham victory
