Newham & Essex Beagles 200 metre European Junior champion David Bolarinwa had to settle for sixth in the Junior World Championships on Friday.

While other senior competitors were taking to the track at Crystal Palace, the 18-year-old was chasing junior honours but even equalling a personal best, Bolarinwa wasn’t good enough to get into the medals.

His time of 20.69 seconds would have been good enough for at least a silver medal in any of the previous 13 runnings of the event but in a high-class field he had to make do with sixth.

The event was won by Turks & Caicos athlete Delano Williams in a time of 20.48.
