They finished second on a total of 87 points behind hosts Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers, who amassed 114 points.

Youngster Kelvin Tairou was one of the clubs two winners on the day, taking the 100metres victory in a time of 11.01 seconds.

The other success came in the 800m through Andre Duque as he came home first in 1.57.06.

Jahmal Germain, who is also a Tessa Sanderson Foundation athlete, produced two second places in the javelin and 110m hurdles as Simon Cooke and Simon Phelan had to settle for runner-up spots in the discus and high jump respectively.

Another Tessa Sanderson foundation athlete, Eusabio Da Silva, recovering from a hamstring injury, leapt 7.02m for second in the long jump.

Tommy Bower took third in the 1,500m in a time of 4.06.06, with Bob Kingman replicating the feat in the pole vault with a clearance of 4.25m.

To round off a successful event the relay team of Tairou, Germain, Akintokun and Duque finished third in 2.28.02.

Meanwhile, in the women’s event Beagles amassed 80 points from the competition, which was good enough for third place overall behind Shaftesbury once again and Luton.

Stand-out performances saw Tope Nuga take the victory in the 100m with a time of 12.36, while Holly Thomas also won her 100m hurdles race in 15.14.

Kirsty Smith took top honours in the long jump with a leap of 5.39m while the 4x400m relay team of Yemi Akinshipo, Kara Graham, Nuga and Temi Erinos won in 2.52.64.

Graham added to her relay first place with a second in the 200m event, as did Akinshipo in the 400m.

Grace Jenkins had to settle for third in the discus with a throw of 38.56m.

Kelly Montgomery picked up runner-up points in the pole vault, while Emma Nwofor managed two fourth place finishes in the high jump and javelin.
