Thousands had something to celebrate at Westfield Stratford City as a world record was broken on its first birthday.
The University Gospel Choir of the Year’s (UGCY) Uplift London gave everyone a boost at the end of an extraordinary summer on Saturday by gathering the largest group of gospel singers to line three floors of Europe’s biggest shopping centre.
Singing ‘Oh Happy Day’ for assembled spectators and TV cameras, the stunt co-incided with Westfield Stratford City’s one-year anniversary, who held a variety of events and offered discounts in selected stores for customers.
UGCY particularly encouraged young people aged 13 to 25 to take participate as part of London Week of Peace to demonstrate the value of young people in projecting a positive message in contrast to last summer riots.
The comedian Eddie Izzard has hit out at London Mayor Boris Johnson whilst maintaining he is ready for the challenge of pursuing politics himself.
