Football icon Sir Trevor Brooking CBE has been talking about his bond with a children’s hospice.

He was at a lunch hosted by Richard House Children’s Hospice in Canary Wharf. He has been a patron of the Beckton charity for a number of years.

Also at the event were Baris and Yesim Guven, from Edmonton. They have a seven-year-old daughter with complex health needs and have been using the services of Richard House for many years. Baris spoke about the family’s experience at the hospice during the lunch.

Peter Ellis, chief executive at the hospice, said: “Sir Trevor spoke with such enthusiasm at the lunch, drawing on his many years of involvement with Richard House. This support, and that of all of our generous supporters, is making a real difference to the lives of families whose children are at risk of death from a life-limiting condition.

“It was moving to hear from Baris what a difference Richard House has made to his family. By sharing his experiences he is really helping highlight the important role of children’s hospices here in London and the need for their continued support.”

A one-club man, Sir Trevor played 635 times for West Ham, helping them win the FA Cup in 1975 and 1980. He also won 47 caps for England and had a stand at West ham named in his honour in 2009. He has served as Director of Football Development at the Football Association since 2004.
