Lyn Brown’s temporary role as shadow home secretary has come to an end.
The West Ham MP replaced Diane Abbott in the role a day before the general election due to Ms Abbott’s ill health.
But Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has now confirmed that Ms Brown – who retained her seat with a majority of more than 36,000 in the June 8 vote – has stepped aside to let Ms Abbott return to the role.
Mr Corbyn told ITV’s Peston on Sunday: “Diane suffers from type 2 diabetes and suffered a great deal during the latter part of the election campaign.
“I had a chat with her during that period and we felt that it was right that she took a break from intensive campaigning at a national level.
“She is getting all the support necessary and she is the shadow home secretary.”
