Walk should raise £25k for Beckton’s Richard House hospice

An anniversary walk over the bridges of London is expected to raise £25,000 for London’s oldest children’s hospice.

The Richard House 12 Bridge Walk celebrated 12 years since the East London hospice first opened its doors to the public. 130 supporters walked a 10-mile route from Battersea Bridge to Tower Bridge and St Katherine’s Dock.

The event was organised to help raise funds for the hospice that now supports almost 300 families caring for children and young people with life-limiting, life-threatening and complex healthcare conditions.

Navdeep Johal, of Oakwood Gardens, Ilford, who took part and said: “It was a joy to see the passion and determination from the people involved in the 12 Bridge Walk to raise funds for Richard House”

Merhaban Singh Jutlla, 58, from Twickenham, said: “It was such a nice day and I’m already planning my fundraising efforts for next year’s event.

“I raised about £3,000 this year and I’m always happy to support such a wonderful charity.”

The walk took in some of London’s most picturesque bridges, including Chelsea, Millennium and London Bridge.

Ben Alonso, event organiser, said: “I’m so proud to say the Richard House bridge walk has proved to be a huge success for the third year running.

“The weather was great and everybody had such a wonderful time, seeing the sights of London over some of the most attractive bridges in the country. It was certainly a treat for those who usually only see the city during commuter hours.

“But what’s more important is that we’ve raised such an amazing amount of money for Richard House.”
