While many of Chelsea’s star footballers are preparing for the World Cup, their training ground was used to host a session with a difference - featuring a visually impaired Newham teenager.

Liam Archer, 16, joined other blind and visually impaired youngsters to play pan-disability football, where the ball can be located by sound thanks to a bell in it.

The Premiership club united with charity Blind Children UK to host the event, designed to encourage players with disabilities to realise their potential and develop their health and independence.

Liam said: “The training session was excellent.

“The coaches explained every drill before we did it and they were really helpful if you needed any assistance.

“It really was a once in a lifetime experience to get professional coaching on the grounds where Chelsea actually train.”

Liam’s father Paul added: “The coaches were great.

“They were working with young people with varying degrees of visual impairments but made the time to speak with each of them, to ensure that all of them got something out of the session.

“It was great fun to watch.”
