Up to 10 people escaped a terraced house in Forest Gate last night after a fire broke out in its basement.
Firefighters from Stratford Station were called to the fire in Claremont Road at 10.09pm after household goods stored in the basement caught fire.
All residents from the house, which has been converted into three flats, managed to evacuate the property before the fire brigade arrived.
The fire was under control by 10.27pm but firefighters remained at the scene until after midnight.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Police burst through the doors of 13 suspected gang members today in a series of dawn raids to crack down on street violence.
