Cycling from Land’s End to John O’Groats is tough enough, but to do it in a day?
Using cycling machines, staff, students and visitors to the University of East London’s SportsDock attempted to complete 1000 miles in aid of Sport Relief.
Pedalling from 7.30am until 10pm, the team of 150 cyclists fell just short of their target, racking up a rather impressive 948 miles between them
Duty manager David Cowell said: “We’re talking about attempting it again next year because we were so close and it was really good.”
He added that participants had been encouraged to dress up as their childhood sporting heroes, which led to footballers, cricketers and even wrestlers gathering in the lobby of the University Way sports centre.
“One of our events staff, Fotios Savva, had a whip round in the office and said if he got more than £50 he would dress up in a red polka dot dress,” David said.
“He got £80 from it, and we made £460 in total, which was great.”
