Two fire stations could be lost in Newham and Tower Hamlets

Newham and Tower Hamlets could each lose one fire station under proposals revealed today.
Silvertown and Bow fire stations have been earmarked for closure under plans by London Fire Brigade to save £28.2million over the next two years.
Fire engines at Whitechapel Fire Station would also be reduced from two to one.
The plans, if approved, will across London result in the loss of 520 front line firefighter jobs.
Previous reports following a leaked document from the Brigade had suggested that 17 stations were set to close across London. Under the current proposals officially released this afternoon that number has been reduced to 12 stations across the capital.
Other stations proposed for closure are Belsize, Clapham, Clerkenwell, Downham, Kingsland, Knightsbridge, New Cross, Southwark, Westminster and Woolwich.
The final decision on station closures is set to be made later this year, following a public consultation.
