London 2012: Take “sensible steps” says Transport for London

Paralympic events will take place at venues on both sides of the River Thames today, leading to another busy day on the public transport and road networks.

There will be competitions in the Olympic Park, ExCeL, North Greenwich Arena, Greenwich Park, and Royal Artillery Barracks.

Transport for London (TfL) is asking commuters and drivers to take “sensible steps” to avoid the busiest times and places.

On the public transport network the Jubilee and Central lines, the Docklands Light Railway and the Javelin services will continue to be busy, while there has also been congestion on the A2, A12 and A13.

TfL said it expects stations serving Trafalgar Square to be busy as the Live Site there and at Potters Field are proving “extremely popular” with spectators.

London’s Transport Commissioner, Peter Hendy, said: “With an increasing number of schools starting the new term, the majority of venues in use at the Olympic Park, and sporting action taking place at several other venues in the east of the city, we’re asking Londoners to take the same sensible steps as during the Olympics - avoiding the busiest times and places, and avoiding driving around venues and the PRN.

“Londoners and commuters deserve a gold medal for the way they have adapted their travel throughout both Games so far.”
