London 2012: Plan ahead and avoid London Bridge on first weekday of Games

Plan ahead, leave extra travel time and avoid hotspots - that is the advice being given to people on the first weekday of the Games.

Transport for London (TfL) said transport services had operated well during the weekend across London.

Just four cars were removed from the route of the men’s and women’s cycle road races at the weekend, which TfL said was a sign people had listened to its travel advice.

Planned road closures were reopened ahead of schedule on both days after the races.

Today will be exceptionally busy at some stations, including London Bridge, which should be avoided according to TfL.

There will be up to 50,000 spectators travelling to the equestrian cross country event at Greenwich Park. Those heading to the event are being told to avoid London Bridge Station and take alternative services from Cannon Street, Victoria or Charing Cross to Greenwich or Blackheath.

Platforms one to six of London Bridge National Rail station, which usually serve Kent, will be exit only in the evening from 6pm to 10pm. Southeastern and FCC passengers are advised to board services from alternative stations such as Charing Cross, Cannon Street, Victoria or Blackfriars.

The Docklands Light Railway (DLR) is expected to see its busiest day of the Games today, and Canary Wharf and Bank Tube stations will also be exceptionally busy.
