Staff from National Express train operator c2c were wearing t-shirts saying “Sorry for last Thursday” as they handed out the chocolates to passengers at Limehouse, West Ham stations and Fenchurch Street.

The giveaway began at 8am, exactly a week after a train broke down causing morning delays to rush hour commuters.

c2c Managing Director Julian Drury said: “Last Thursday we fell below our usual high standards. That’s why we wanted to do something, as well as say sorry to everyone affected, whatever their delay was that day – short or long.”
