The borough’s best brains put their knowledge to the test at the Toy Appeal quiz night.

Seventeen teams, including a group of Recorder reporters, battled through ten rounds of tricky questions in a bid to be crowned the 2016 champions.

And it was a group of familiar faces who picked up the trophy – the Newham Blips, who have won six out of the last seven years.

The team of Newham Council employees – Dave Baldock, Marion Long, Cecile Duerinckx, Wes Heslop, Alison Harvey and Karen Watling – put their success down to having “a mix of people who are good at different things” and said that they had several rounds where they got full marks.

Yesterday’s quiz, which also included a raffle, raised £1,928 for the appeal.

Former Recorder editor Colin Grainger also handed over the £616 he raised through his sponsored swim.
