Three adults and two children were led to safety by firefighters during a fire at a balcony at block of flats in Forest Gate.

Fire crews managed to contain the fire to the balcony and prevent it from spreading into the block in Katherine Road in the early hours on Friday.

Four fire engines with around 20 firefighters from Stratford and Leytonstone fire stations

attended after being called at 12.30am. No injuries were reported and the fire was under control just before 1am.

The London Fire Brigade’s fire investigation team is working with the Metropolitan Police to establish the cause of the fire.

Brick Lane Comedy Festival cancelled after opposition from community groups
