Anne-Marie Imafidon, from Stratford, received £8,000 from O2 Think Big and UnLtd, organisations that provide support to social entrepreneurs.

The 24-year-old intends to put the cash towards the STEMettes, a group she founded which aims to highlight women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM), by employing a full-time member of staff to help take the business outside of London.

She said: “I personally feel very passionate about this as I love technology and have known from a really young age that it was something I wanted a career in.

“But I really want to open the eyes of young women about science, engineering, maths and technology careers as an option.”

Anne-Marie made the headlines in 2001 when she gained an E grade in Computing A-level and a D grade in her Maths AS-level.

Bill Eyres, head of O2 Think Big, added: “It is amazing to see what Anne-Marie has already achieved through the STEMettes.

“This extra injection of funding and support will really elevate his/her initiative to the next level and increase its scale and impact.”
