West Ham Church School has received an award for having the highest quality of entries for the ‘Stratford Big Writing Competition’.
During a special assembly awards were presented by Councillor Charlene McLean and Laura Beswick from Newham Council with help from a former Stratford Writing Ambassador.
First prize was presented to Sabishan Vasanthan, 10, for his piece ‘Stratford in the Spotlight’ where he wrote about ‘mesmerizing characteristics’ including ‘cultures and races’, ‘teamwork and commitment’. He also encouraged everyone to look forward to the 2012 Olympics when Stratford takes ‘centre stage’. Sabishan was awarded a year’s free entry to the Discover Centre at Stratford.
The runner-up prize of a book token was presented to Shay, aged 11, for a remarkable poem about the Olympic Games.
Mrs Gyambib, assistant head teacher at the Stratford school, said: “We are delighted that the children have been recognised for all the effort they put into their writing. The trophy will take pride of place”.
