Thousands of people are now expected to register their interest in moving to the new homestead - yards away from the Olympic Stadium - at the end of the games.

The name of the estate, which will be the Athletes Village during the games, has been confirmed as East Village London E20. It will be ready for people to move in after 2013.

A total of 1,379 properties, owned by Triathlon Homes, will be affordable. Newham Council will be given a share of the 675 put in council control. They, in turn, will be made available for those on the council’s waiting list.

A further 1,439 homes, operated by the Qatari Diar Real Estate Development Company and Delancy, will be for rent. Homes available include one bedroom apartments and four bedroom townhouses.

Workers are currently planting trees that will line the streets and private courtyards. More than 30 shops, cafes and restaurants will also be in place by the time people start to move in.

A medical centre will also be on site, as will the Chobham Academy, a 1,800 student school for youngsters aged between three and 19.

Elliott Lipton, director of Triathlon Homes, said: “Our vision is to deliver a neighbourhood that provides the very best quality homes and services to its residents.

“It is also one which fosters a welcoming, inclusive, safe and vibrant community.”
