The lucky young students from Colegrave Primary School in Henniker Road travelled to the Palace of Westminster on Wednesday June 14 to celebrate their partnership with a town in South Yorkshire.
The Newham Barnsley Partnership is maximising the benefits that the Olympic Games will bring to our borough by sharing some of them with schools further north so they too can share in the Olympic legacy.
Mayor Sir Robin Wales and West Ham MP Lyn Brown were representing Newham at the event while Barnsley Central MP Dan Jarvis was promoting the Yorkshire side.
The scheme, based on the seven Olympic and Paralympic values, includes resources for teachers, assembly plans, packs and certificates for children, all of which allow students from Barnsley to better understand the values and ideals of the Olympic movement.
The schools programme is backed by the Physical Education Association, the Arts Council and the Federation of Music Services, and is also Inspire Marked by London 2012.
