A talented pupil from Stratford was so successful at GCSE he turned down a full scholarship at Eton College for a better offer.
Richard Ibekwe, 16, gained nine A*s, including an A* with Distinction in Further Maths after studying hard for five years, winning him offers of two full scholarships at Eton College in Windsor and Winchester College in Hampshire.
Richard’s mother Vivian said he took up the offer to board full-time at Winchester College because it is ‘more academic’. Vivian said: “It’s fantastic. It’s also a just reward for all of his hard work.” Studying maths and sciences at A Level, Richard is looking forward to a career in Engineering.
But he will celebrate his results first by attending the Paralympic Games with his family next week.
Police burst through the doors of 13 suspected gang members today in a series of dawn raids to crack down on street violence.
