A Newham police officer is getting on his bike to raise money for a hospice charity in memory of his parents.
Youth Engagement Officer and keen cyclist PC Spencer Littlechild will take part in the Prudential Ride London - Surrey 100 cycle challenge next month alongside station colleagues DC Warner and DC Newton.
He hopes to complete the 100 mile race, which begins at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford, in under six hours and aims to raise £750 for Help for Hospices.
“They do so much work to help people suffering with cancer in every stage,” he said. “My mum lost her battle with cancer at the start of 2013, then my father passed away six months later, so I’m raising money in memory of both mum and dad.
“Hospice care aims to improve the lives of people who have a life limiting or terminal illness, helping them to live well before they die.”
Pupils from Stratford School Academy are showing their support for Spencer with a dress down-day next Wednesday to show support and raise additional funds.
