Stratford resident Christine Kemp will be floating alongside the Royal Family in June as part of the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant.

Boat owner Christine has been chosen by pageant organisers and representatives from the river community to form part of the largest flotilla in modern times in celebration of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Due to process along the river Thames on Sunday June 3, around a thousands boats will gather from rowing boats to working boats to pleasure vessels, all bedecked in patriotic streamers and Union Jacks.

Christine is the owner of NB Ketura, a 59 ft narrowboat, normally situated on the Three Mills Lock on the River Lea.

She said: “I am really excited about being chosen to take part in the flotilla.

“I belong to St Pancras Cruising Club and have been practicing on the Thames with friends from my cycle club, who are also boating enthusiasts, and hoping to be chosen for this amazing event.

“More rehearsals are scheduled in the next few months and although a little apprehensive, I can’t wait for the day.

“I am also privileged to have taken part in the opening ceremonies for the new Three Mills Lock and the redeveloped City Mill Lock all in the Newham area and an essential part of the Olympics.”

The flotilla will stretch for an estimated 12 and a half miles behind the Queen and other members of the Royal Family aboard the Royal Barge, The Spirit of Chartwell.
