Newham parents are cheering on boys from Rokeby School in Canning Town as they face three others in the Key Stage Four category for pupils in Years 10 and 11.

They came through a borough tournament and a sub-regional qualifying round to earn their place in the finals.

Rokeby are now the only school left in Newham and one of only three representing east London in the entire competition.

The London Youth Games has a rich badminton heritage with past participants including 10 times English Champion and European Champion Darren Hall and current GB Number One and Commonwealth Games silver medallist Rajiv Oeseph.

A record 104,463 young Londoners took part in last year’s London Youth Games and 2013’s tournament features 85 competitions across 33 sports and 27 event days, culminating in finals week at the National Sports Centre Crystal Palace in July where the overall winning borough are awarded the Jubilee Trophy.
