Unicorn magic was brought to Richard House on Thursday as a very special visitor took centre stage at the hospice’s animal day.

Two giant Leonberger dogs and a rabbit proved popular with the young residents and their families, but it was the unicorn that attracted most attention.

Youngsters even had the opportunity to take the animal for a walk around the hospice grounds.

One of those to enjoy the day was Abdullah Amerat, nine, who has a rare muscle condition known as Pompe disease.

His father Saam said: “The summer activity events are great because we can come along as a whole family and the kids can do activities together while we have a rest.

“It’s great to do some different to usual and it breaks the routine.

“Coming to events like this are also a great chance to meet up with other families, share our experiences and learn from each other.”

The magical visit from Essex-based Alamanda Therapy Animals was the culmination of a month of summer activities, which included a trip to Brighton, football and dance sessions and a special Summerfest festival.
