Restrictions imposed at Westfield Stratford City to cope with tens of thousands of Games fans

With over 200,000 spectators and workers expected to pour into the Olympic Park tomorrow and Saturday restrictions on accessibility into Westfield Stratford City have been announced.

It will not be open to the general public. Instead only accredited workers, Games ticket holders, people picking up their passes or using hospitality venues will be allowed into the shopping complex on those days.

The restrictions, brought in to cope with the two busiest days at the Olympic Park, will run between 10.30am and 5pm on both days.

Outside those hours, shops will be open to all until 11.00pm and restaurants and leisure until at 12.30am.

Passengers are urged by Transport for London to avoid the area, using West Ham station as an alternative to Stratford. That will involve a 15 minute walk to the Park.

Paul Deighton, Chief Executive, LOCOG, said: “Because of the huge number of people coming to the Park on those days at certain times we have to restrict general public access to Westfield Stratford City and we are encouraging people to avoid travelling to Stratford unless they have a ticket.”
