A resident celebrated her 100th birthday with a party and a visit by the deputy mayor.
Nora Vick celebrated her centenary at Bakers Court nursing centre in Manor Park on September 27 surrounded by friends.
The party was attended by Cllr Lester Hudson, deputy mayor of Newham, who gave a speech and chatted with the guest of honour.
Ms Vick was born in 1913 in Shepherds Bush and worked in a carpentry job making stands for teapots before she met her husband Arthur, who was in the Welsh Guards.
She once saw King George and Queen Mary while visiting Arthur at Buckingham Palace.
Ms Vick received flowers and presents from her son David, who lives in New Zealand, and her grandchildren.
Donna Hunt at Bakers Court nursing centre said: “Nora was really pleased with her telegram and card from the Queen. She said, ‘I can’t believe she took time out to send me a card!’.”
