Trade unionist campaigners will protest outside the Labour Party’s special conference at the ExCel Centre this morning, over the recently-published Collins’ Review.

Newham Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition (TUSC) will be outside the East Entrance of the exhibition centre from 10am to 11am, while Labour party members debate their future relationship with unions.

One of the protesters is TUSC’s prospective mayoral candidate for Newham, Lois Austin - a former chair of Labour Party’s youth wing in the late 1980s.

“Socialists like me were forced out [of the Labour party] or silenced by people like Tony Blair who were backed by big business to rid the party of socialists,” he said.

“Today the Labour Party is another party for the millionaires, just like the Tories and Lib Dems.”

Written by Labour peer Lord Collins, the review examines the party’s link with the trade unions, with recommendations for future reform.

TUSC is an electoral alliance that aims to stand candidates against all cuts and forms of privatisation.

It involves the RMT transport workers’ union, plus leading members of other trade unions and socialist groups.
